I was asked to color match a swatch of fabric for a woman so that this painting would match her decor perfectly. She found my "Paisley Jungle" online and wanted something similar to it. I did this on a 24" x 36" canvas with acrylic paint.

It has been a year since I sold my 1st painting so I decided it was a good time for a little reflecting....I decided to start painting again after not painting for over 6 years, since college, to help us earn some money because my husband lost his job (in construction in Vegas... not a good time for that). It caused a lot of stress for me..... First, I had to fork out a lot of money (when things were obviously tight) to just be able to get the supplies I needed to do a variety of different paintings to show what I'm capable of. Second, I actually had a minor break down one night to my husband, about 2 weeks after I publicly posted my 1st paintings on Etsy.com and Facebook, mortified that I had completely humiliated myself.... Putting myself out there, showing my art made me feel really vulnerable. I thought I was just setting myself up for failure. It was about a week later that I got my first custom order. I have completely enjoyed getting back into painting and feel that it was a blessing to have been "forced" into doing it again. During the last year I ended up taking a part time job for about 2 months and we opened up a furniture store, which have both made it so I haven't been able to paint as much as I'd like to. I'm pleased to say that a year later, I have sold 38 paintings, donated 5 and have paintings in over 12 states..... I never would've imagined that I would've accomplished this when I started off and was so nervous. My husband has recently started a great job that has been a huge blessing for us. In the last year I have learned that you don't need a lot of the things you think.... I have been able to look at all the blessings in my life instead and have put a lot of trust in Heavenly Father, and he has really come through! :) Thank you to everyone who has helped motivate me and I'm looking forward to what the next year has to offer!

Life has been pretty crazy.... we started a furniture store called Seats, Eats & Sleeps... can see our blog to learn more about it, www.SeatsEatsSleeps.blogspot.com, but that's been taking up a lot of my time so I was happy to be able to squeeze a painting in. My wonderful grandpa turned 70 this last Sunday and they recently got a dog, they named Elvis, and I think he is my grandpa's favorite out of any of his kids/ grandchildren and great grandchildren! Just kidding.... kind of!;) I surprised him with a painting of Elvis from the 1st day they got him for his birthday. I didn't get a good picture of it before giving it to him, so I need to remember to bring my camera next time I go visit! Here's a picture I had taken on my phone.... sorry for the bad quality. Also, is the picture I based it off of.

Hotel Del Coronado

I thought it would be fun to show the process of creating this painting. There's a lot of layering and it's kind of neat to see the steps. As I had mentioned in my last post, this is going to be a Father's Day gift for the father of these 3 boys, hope he likes it!

I had been working part time out of the home and haven't been able to put time into my paintings, but I am home again and feeling back in the painting groove! I have been working on a painting a friend commissioned me to do for her husband for Father's Day, I'm excited to show it, stay tuned!

So, I've been working on something a little different..... I had one of my mom's best friends ask me to paint her kitchen table for her. I'm so used to painting on canvas, this was a fun challenge! I'm still working on it, but I thought I'd post a "before" picture and show the stage that I'm at now, then soon I'll be posting a finished picture. I still have more detail to add, but here's a little peak! Once this is done, I've got some orders for paintings that I'm really excited to do and share!

Ok, so I know I've been MIA for the last little while..... I have taken a much needed break. One thing about me is that I get completely enthused and obsessed with something (like painting) and will let it take over my life. Well, it was bound to happen, and it did.... I got to where I needed to take a break and now I feel like I am ready to get back going again and I really just need to work on balancing my art with everything else.

This set was a custom order, an old friend of mine and his wife are expecting twin boys and wanted me to do this painting to coordinate with the crib bedding they picked out. The bedding also had a baby blue in it, and these paintings will be hung on a wall painted that blue color so they should really pop and be fun! Congrats you guys and thank you for allowing me to do these for you!

Eiffel Tower Romance

I had a lot of fun designing this painting, mostly because the client came to me with a really fun idea! She knew she wanted a French-themed, Romantic feel painting and wanted the Eiffel Tower placed so it's going across 2 of the canvases, slightly tilted. She wanted me to only use cream, browns, and black to match their master bedroom's bedding and left the rest of the design up to me. This picture was taken above my bed, just sitting across our headboard, but they're also planning on it going over their bed. She wanted to do something fun to surprise her husband for when he came home from the army. How sweet! And how strong you must be... For all the women who have husbands who serve our country, I admire you for being so strong, and want to say thank you.

On a side note, I love working with people to create something unique. It's been interesting, for me, to see how some people ask that I just mimic something that I've already painted, but just request I use their specific colors, others give me an idea of what they want but want me to put my own twist and artistic style to it, and others seem like they know exactly what they want, and I'm acting as they're artistic hand to create what's in their head. I love it, because they all offer different challenges for me and are fun for me in their own way. I know a lot of artists have the opinion that if you're an artist, it's almost like "selling out" to paint other people's requests rather than what you desire to paint. I think I have the best of both worlds, I absolutely enjoy doing both! I want to thank everyone who has given me the opportunity to create art for you, and I hope that I can continue doing this for a very long time!

Henderson Farmer's Market

This was my 1st attempt at trying to go sale my stuff somewhere. This was at the Farmer's Market in downtown Henderson. I learned that it's not really the greatest place to try to sale art, but was able to find out about some other events that may be good. I keep pretty busy getting custom orders, but it would still be nice to be able to spread my name around more and also be able to sale some of these paintings. We'll see.... I think I may try again at the Farmer's Market next Thursday, one last try before Christmas, and then maybe in the Spring when the weather is better. This is all new to me.... can't say I'm not trying! :)

I Sold My 1st Painting In A Gallery!!!!

So.... now I can say that I officially sale art in a gallery!! Haha! Just thought I'd share my joy :)

I wanted to try a different style of paisley, and I think it turned out really pretty. I decided to just do one main shape on each canvas but then put a lot of detail inside that shape. I hope that by doing that it lets the paisley shapes really stand out, and doesn't get lost with other stuff going on around it.

My Art in the Angela Schuler Gallery

This is the Angela Schuler Gallery in Traverse City, MI. From what I hear, it's an artsy little tourist town. Exciting News!

As most of you know, I just started painting again last month for the main purpose of trying to earn a little money since my husband was laid off his job... which I must say, being in construction here in Vegas, we are very blessed that he kept his job as long as he did. He's an extremely honest, hard worker and because of that, his boss kept him on a lot longer than expected. Ok, back to me :) ..... Well, since I started painting I was reminded how much I really enjoy painting and the idea of being able to do something that I love and be able to stay home with my kids and earn money (which has yet to happen since I keep buying more and more supplies :).... someday though!)seemed more and more wonderful to me! Well, everything has worked out really well so far... so well that I think that Heavenly Father is trying to show me that this is something that I can do and should persue. Well, to the exciting news (well, at least for me) :) ... drum roll, please.... A couple of days ago I had an art gallery director contact me through Etsy after seeing my paintings. She said that she really likes my art work and wants to display 5 of my paintings! Ok, so I'm pretty sure it's just a little hole in the wall art gallery in a little artsy town in Michigan, but that's beside the point.... someone actually saw my stuff and wants it in their gallery!! Even if none of my paintings sale, I feel quite honored and am very excited about it! Just wanted to share my excitement! :)

Hhhmmm.... I took a paisley pattern and, uh.... this is what I created :) Gallery wrap stretched canvas, 30" x 40" , edges are painted- no need for a frame.

I had a friend of mine's wife ask me to create something for their guest bedroom using these colors. She said she liked randomness and Paisley always cought her eye. I'm glad she liked it, this was my 1st sale! Thanks again! :)

For me, this painting represents the beginning of a new life of the baby, and the beginning of a new day with the sunrise. As an expecting mother, there are many emotions involved with the anticipation on your new arrival.... excitement, fear of the unkown, but most of all love. I hope to have captured an intimate moment in which all mothers feel.

I have been bugged by friends forever that I should start a blog..... well, I'm kind of giving in...... I'm starting a blog to showcase my art. I'm not quite committed to keep up a blog on my family and our happenings.... sounds like a lot of work :) A good friend of mine said that I should do one for my paintings and I thought I'd give it a shot!
I'll introduce myself a tad..... I'm a mother of 2 wonderful kids, and a wife of a wonderful husband who has been able to provide for us but with this economy, he recently lost his job. I LOVE being home with my kids and I also love painting so I thought I'd put myself out in the cyber world and show some of my paintings I've done. If I can earn a little extra money while doing something I enjoy and being able to stay home with my kids, I'd say that's a pretty sweet deal!
I'd appreciate you letting me know what you think of my work, I like to get people's feed back and am always trying to better myself. I love trying new styles, as you'll see I've tried to post different styles to hopefully catch someones attention. Some of the art I post might have already been purchased, but prints could be available. Or, if you'd like to make a special request, I'd love to create something unique and special for your home or as a gift for someone!
